UNITING CHURCH IN AUSTRALIA, QUEENSLAND SYNOD COMMITMENT TO HEALTHY ORGANISATIONS
The Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod is committed to providing a healthy environment for all of its ministers, members, adherents, employees and volunteers. This commitment is contained within the statement regarding the purposes of the Uniting Church.
“To provide for the worship of God, to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, to promote Christian fellowship, to nurture believers in the Christian faith, to engage in mission, to assist in human development, toward the improvement of human relationships, to meet human need through charitable and other services and to do such other things as may be required in obedience to the Holy Spirit.” (The Uniting Church in Australia, Constitution & Regulations, 2004 Edition, p 38)
Aside from the pastoral implications of providing a healthy environment, by encouraging the physical, emotional and spiritual development and well being of its ministers, members, adherents, employees and volunteers, the Church is creating and nurturing the human potential for the achievement of the mission of the Church.
WHAT IS HEALTHY CHURCH
Because of its broad nature, the “ Healthy Church” concept is more than simply a workplace health and safety or human resources issue. It is one which encompasses the culture of a Church and promotes the continual physical, emotional and spiritual growth and development of members.
This is achieved through:
Leadership principles
- Leadership principles and methods which recognise that members are the necessary success factor for the achievement of the Church’s mission.
- Individual participation and the encouragement of individual motivation and responsibility for the well being of the Church and its members.
- Church structure, systems and work practises which provide its members with the appropriate balance between demands, control over their own environment, level of skills & gifts and social support.
- Policies which support the healthy church concept.
- Effective communication system and information dissemination processes.
- Appropriate training and development systems.
- An integrated workplace health and safety service.
